Forward Launches Canadian Payment Operations

Forward launched Canadian payment processing this week! This is a big deal for software companies operating across North America.

What this means for you: Process payments (and generate revenue) across your entire North American footprint with a single integration. If you’re already a Forward customer in the United States, it just works. Same onboarding, same authorization flows, same security infrastructure. Single system simplicity.

Why this was hard to build:

Before Forward, we built vertical software companies. Expanding to Canada was simple: check a few boxes, sign a new client, and we were live. Our cloud-based infrastructure meant software delivery was easy, and we could support Canadian operations with our US-based teams.

Payments is entirely different.

Payments is derivative of banking, and banking is regulated distinctly in each country. Canada requires a different settlement bank, different compliance regime, different merchant agreements. All mandated, not by choice. Forward has abstracted away these complexities. To you, Canadian customers look identical to US customers. Same tools, same processes, same capabilities in your white-label, Forward-powered embedded payments product.

The Forward approach vs. industry norm:

The industry treats Canada as an edge case. With less than 10% of US GDP, most processors deprioritize it. Software companies wanting consistent functionality across both countries have to manage multiple integrations (even under the same processor’s roof) and deal with features that work differently between markets. A support nightmare.

If a salesperson tells you “we’re adding Canada this year, it’s on the roadmap,” they’re likely not being truthful. Or they’re planning to use a third-party bolt-on (whether acquired or licensed). Either way, you’ll be stuck managing internal conversations about “how things work here versus there.”

Don’t settle for that.

Leverage Forward’s Canada + United States single-stack solution to scale your payments business without the complexity.
